Stoneham Municipal Employees Federal Credit Union’s Successful Branch Transformation

When Stoneham Municipal Employees Federal Credit Union (SMEFCU) was ready to update their branch in Stoneham, they turned to NES Group for a complete branch transformation. SMEFCU’s goals for this renovation were to create a modern branch with a friendly, engaging atmosphere that showcases their hallmark of personalized service while also honoring their membership’s municipal employees.

Construction consisted of complete demolition of the existing interior and reworking of existing utility services. For exterior work, we added a new exterior handicap ramp to make the branch ADA accessible. The newly designed branch includes an open lobby with a waiting area, a teller pod, private offices, back operation offices, a vault area, and a breakroom for their employees. Because this project was a live renovation, SMEFCU could carry on with their operations, keeping their branch open for their members during construction.

Before SMEFCU moved in and turned this building into a branch, it was a train station built back in 1895. To keep that piece of history for their members, SMEFCU wanted to incorporate the train station within this refreshed branch. Our marketing division achieved this with a modern and customized train tracks-inspired frost for their office glass. SMEFCU’s color palette allowed our interior designers to use millwork, finishes, and textiles that provide a clean and contemporary feel – blending flawlessly with the original cathedral ceiling that adds character.

This refreshed branch has the perfect balance between modern and contemporary with a touch of authentic history that grounds their members in familiarity. For SMEFCU’s members and employees, this updated branch is a preface to more technology and advancements to come. Congratulations to SMEFCU on this fantastic and successful branch transformation!
